MISSOULA — An opulent mansion on a private island in a northwest Montana lake has sold to an unknown buyer after sitting vacant for years.

The Missoulian reports Missoula-based real estate company Engel and Volkers Western Frontier announced last week the sale of the Shelter Island Estate on Flathead Lake.

Broker Dawn Maddux facilitated the sale. She did not disclose the buyer or the sale price, which is not considered public information in Montana.

Maddux says the real estate transaction was the priciest ever recorded on Flathead Lake according to the Montana Regional Multiple Listing Service.

The 22-acre (9-hectare) island and 18,000-square-foot (1,672-square-meter) mansion near the town of Rollins were last listed for sale for $13.95 million.

The property was originally listed in 2012 for $78 million.
