Helena Airport Served Record Number of Passengers in 2018

Helena Regional Airport has marked its fourth consecutive record year of passenger travel

HELENA — Helena Regional Airport has marked its fourth consecutive record year of passenger travel.

The Independent Record reports that in 2018, nearly 240,000 passengers flew from or to the airport. That was an 11.4 percent increase from the previous year, in part because the airport offered an additional 250 flights.

Airport manager Jeff Wadekamper, who called 2018 “a great year,” says Montana is unique because it has seven major airports, despite its sparse population. He says that contributes to a healthy competition among airports for passengers.

Construction was started in July to expand the terminal, and airport officials are looking for additional opportunities to expand service to the West Coast and Alaska.
