U.S. Labor Secretary Tours Wyoming Coal Mines

Gillette is located in the top coal-producing region of the U.S., the Powder River Basin of Wyoming and Montana

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta is in Wyoming to tour coal mines.

Acosta is the host of Republican U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi. Enzi’s home town of Gillette is located in the top coal-producing region of the U.S., the Powder River Basin of Wyoming and Montana.

The Gillette News-Record reports Enzi and Acosta were touring Peabody Energy Corp.’s North Antelope Rochelle coal mine on Monday.

The tour wasn’t open to the public.

Peabody’s three mines in the Powder River Basin produced more than 120 million tons (109 million metric tons) of coal in 2018.
