VAUGHN — Montana authorities say a family is cut off but safe inside a home surrounded by floodwater.

The Great Falls Tribune reports that two adults and two children were in the home off Highway 89 in Vaughn inside an area of rising water Sunday.

The Vaughn Fire Department and Cascade County Sheriff’s Office say the home 233 miles (about 375 kilometers) northwest of Billings has not been disturbed and the family has not indicated they need to be evacuated.

Authorities say they believe melting snow has caused rising water levels and urged residents to stay away from the Sun River.

Authorities say runoff is being rejected by frozen ground in some areas and a flood advisory due to snowmelt remains in effect for much of north-central Montana through Monday.
