MISSOULA – Child care service is expected to resume this summer in a University of Montana hall after an asbestos contamination is repaired.
The Missoulian reported Monday that the university will return child care services to McGill Hall after asbestos-removal renovations are completed in July.
The newspaper reports that the building was closed Jan. 28 after dusty material reported in December was identified as asbestos.
The newspaper reports that complaints about possible asbestos issues in McGill first surfaced last November and contamination was confirmed when a maintenance worker reported seeing white powder near an oil valve.
Officials say the child care program was moved to the College of Education and Human Sciences building a short distance away.
Officials say the university has spent about $200,000 on asbestos cleanup work.
