How many square feet, for my dollar, by city

Three months ago, we looked at the median amount of square footage of homes sold during the prior 12 months – by city and sold price range. Now that we’re in the middle of spring, let’s update the snapshot of the prior 12 months (looking back from May 2018 through April 2019) (see chart).

Dull surprise that Whitefish single-family residences are often smaller by purchase price than other locales, but not always. You might assume that Polson always delivers more square footage for the dollar, but you’d be wrong – look at Lakeside in the higher ranges; even Columbia Falls and Kalispell offered more for the dollar in those higher ranges. In some price ranges, median square footage was nearly twice as much in Polson, compared to Whitefish.

Stair-stepped increasing sizes look consistent across the cities, by price range, until you hit the $350,000; then Lakeside dips below Whitefish for a few.
