Crow Tribe Issues ‘Boil Order’ in Pryor Water System

Water department will lift the boil order after tests determine the water is safe to drink

BILLINGS — The Crow Tribe’s Water Resource Department has issued a boil order for the Pryor water system due to possible contamination.

The department said Friday the tribe failed to pay its power bill and electricity was shut off on Thursday. The pumps lost power, causing the distribution system lines to depressurize, which could have allowed contaminants to seep into the pipes.

Water lines have been re-pressurized but residents are advised to boil tap water for three minutes before consuming it or using it for cooking, brushing teeth or washing dishes. Showering in the water is considered safe.

The water department will lift the boil order after tests determine the water is safe to drink.
