HELENA – A Montana Highway Patrol trooper who was shot three times while investigating a fatal Missoula shooting in mid-March is scheduled to return home this week.

The Department of Justice says Wade Palmer is scheduled to be released from the University of Utah Hospital on Wednesday and fly back to Missoula. A motorcade will escort him home.

His lead physician along with Montana Highway Patrol Chief Tom Butler and Attorney General Tim Fox are scheduled to hold a news conference at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.

Butler says Palmer has received the best possible medical care and acknowledged he has a long road ahead as he begins outpatient therapy.

Palmer was shot in the neck, face and head.
