Coach: Carroll Retaliated Over Sex Discrimination Claims

Bennett MacIntyre filed a federal lawsuit Friday alleging Title IX violations

HELENA — Carroll College’s golf coach is accusing school officials of retaliating against him for reporting sex discrimination in its athletic programs.

The Independent Record reports Bennett MacIntyre filed a federal lawsuit Friday alleging Title IX violations. The law requires schools that receive federal funding provide equal opportunities for men and women.

Carroll Athletics Director Charlie Gross declined to comment, saying he hasn’t seen the lawsuit.

MacIntyre says he brought his concerns to the school’s Title IX coordinator in 2016 over what he called a disparity in funding and participation opportunities provided to men and women’s sports.

He says he then received his first-ever negative evaluation and his contract as a full-time employee wasn’t renewed last year.

Instead, he was given stipend agreement to remain coach at less than half the salary and without benefits.
