Democrat John Mues Enters Montana US Senate Race

Mues joins Helena Mayor Wilmot Collins in seeking the Democratic nomination

HELENA — Political newcomer John Mues has become the second Democrat to enter the race to challenge Republican U.S. Sen. Steve Daines of Montana.

The engineer and Navy veteran said Thursday he decided to run because of Daines’ legislative record, including votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act and for President Donald Trump’s tax cuts.

Mues joins Helena Mayor Wilmot Collins in seeking the Democratic nomination to run against the first-term senator.

Mues says he was a submarine warfare officer and nuclear engineer in the Navy and later taught high school math and English on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.

He says he now works as an engineer in the energy sector and lives near the small community of Loma.

Last month, a film producer accidentally drowned in Canyon Ferry Lake while shooting a campaign video for Mues.
