TWO DOT — U.S. Forest Service officials have reached a deal with a Montana landowner meant to increase public access to the eastern side of the Crazy Mountains.
The Great Falls Tribune reports the Forest Service will allow landowner Mac White motorized access across public land to reach isolated parcels he owns.
In return, the Forest Service will get an easement to build a trail into the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. That will allow access from the eastern side of the southwestern Montana mountain range into the remote Big Elk Canyon.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports that work will also begin on a new trail on the western side of the Crazy Mountains next week.
The project is meant to reroute and replace parts of a trail where access had been in dispute.
