BILLINGS — Federal authorities say alcohol use was a significant factor in the death of a 14-year-old girl whose body was found on a south-central Montana American Indian reservation in December.

The office of Montana U.S Attorney Kurt Alme said Thursday that it won’t pursue any charges in the death of Henny Scott.

Her body was found on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation west of Lame Deer on Dec. 28, two weeks after she was reported missing.

Northern Cheyenne leaders and Scott’s family had expressed frustration that law enforcement didn’t react faster.

Henny Scott had last been seen walking away from a residence in the Muddy Creek area of Lame deer. Her body was found about 200 yards away from the residence.

She had been wearing light weight clothing in below-freezing temperatures.
