University of Providence Names Interim Wrestling Coach

Komac takes over for Caleb Schaeffer, who was placed on leave in August after his name showed up in court records in a human trafficking case

GREAT FALLS — The University of Providence in Great Falls has named Steve Komac as its interim wrestling coach.

Dave Gantt, vice president of athletics, announced Komac’s hiring Thursday.

Komac, who has been head coach at Great Falls High since 2003, gets a chance to coach his sons again. Jarren and Jordan Komac are members of the UP wrestling team.

Komac takes over for Caleb Schaeffer, who was placed on leave in August after his name showed up in court records in a human trafficking case. Cascade County Attorney Josh Rackie says Schaeffer has not been charged. Court records say Schaeffer told police he arranged to meet a woman at a motel for oral sex.

Komac’s assistant and former Argo wrestler Luis Carranza has been elevated to head coach for the Bison.
