Montana Woman Sentenced to 1 Year and 1 Day for Manslaughter

Shayanna Marie England was convicted for fatally striking 20-year-old Eljay Young Running Crane with her car in Heart Butte

GREAT FALLS — A Montana woman convicted of involuntary manslaughter has been sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison.

The Great Falls Tribune reports Shayanna Marie England must also submit to three years of supervision following her release and pay $3,500 in restitution.

England was convicted in March for fatally striking 20-year-old Eljay Young Running Crane with her car in Heart Butte in January 2018.

An assistant U.S. attorney says England, then 19, was driving 90 mph (145 kph) on hazardous road conditions on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation after consuming alcohol.

England and Young Running Crane were reportedly in a relationship.

England’s defense attorney had asked for probation or a term of community confinement, citing a lack of criminal history and the needs of her newborn baby.
