Woodland Park Sees New Vandalism

A swastika was painted over the Community Spirit Monument sign around Thanksgiving

By Maggie Dresser

The Community Spirit Monument sign in Woodland Park was vandalized with a spray painted swastika around the Thanksgiving holiday this weekend, according to Love Lives Here Flathead.

The graffiti was reportedly removed from the benches and covered with plywood following the vandalism over the weekend, with bench repair plans in the works.

The vandalism follows similar actions that occurred at the end of September when benches and signs were defaced.

Love Lives Here is working to bring awareness to the vandalism acts and repair the Community Spirit Monument before it draws more vandals to Woodland Park.

“White supremacist activity needs to be taken seriously,” Love Lives Here said in a statement. “We don’t want to give these domestic terrorists attention, but our community should be united in the belief that defacing and destroying public property with hate symbols is not acceptable, and we need to say so without hesitation.”
