Law enforcement says there was no immediate risk to the public

Baker Avenue in downtown Whitefish was closed Thursday afternoon following a report of a “disturbance with a weapon” that was later determined to be false.

At approximately 2:19 p.m. someone reported that there was a person barricaded inside a residence near the intersection of Second Street and Baker Avenue. Officers from the Whitefish Police Department, Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, Kalispell Police Department, Columbia Falls Police Department and Montana Highway Patrol all responded to the scene along with the Northwest Montana Regional SWAT Team. Law enforcement arrived and cleared the residence without incident.

According to the Whitefish Police Department, the “occupants of the residence were contacted and cooperated with the investigation, which was later determined to be unfounded.”

Officials say the incident remains under investigation.

The incident briefly closed Second Street and Baker Avenue.
