GREAT FALLS – Seven of the eight candidates running for Montana’s lone U.S. House seat are scheduled to participate in a virtual debate on Saturday.

The debate is sponsored by the Montana Farmers Union and will focus on agricultural issues, ABC FOX Montana reported. The debates will be prerecorded and aired on SWX television stations at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Joe Dooling, John Evankovich, Debra Lamm, Mark McGinley and Secretary of State Corey Stapleton are participating in the Republican debate. Kathleen Williams and state Rep. Tom Winter are participating in the Democratic debate.

State Auditor Matt Rosendale cited scheduling conflicts in declining an invitation to participate in the Republican debate.

An email from his campaign to ABC FOX Montana stations said: “Unfortunately, we have not been able to move Matt’s other priorities to make it to this debate.”

Montana’s U.S. House seat is open because U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte is seeking the Republican nomination for governor.

Primary election ballots will be mailed out on May 8.
