Fire crews say they were able to hold a weekend wildfire near Seeley Lake to just 23 acres.
Saturday’s wildfire was sparked by lightning, and high winds caused it to spread about 10 miles west of Seeley Lake.
Mike Kopitzke is the fire program manager for the southwestern land office for the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. He says fire crews were able to prevent the blaze from getting any bigger despite it being in an area thick with dead and dying lumber.
Kopitzke says the plan is to have everything secured Monday morning.
Crews also beat back two small fires in the Bitterroot Valley near Sula this weekend.
