As Postseason Approaches, Wildkats Hold Top Ranking in Class A

Winners of seven in a row, Columbia Falls remains the top-ranked Class A girls team in the latest Associated Press High School Basketball Poll.

The Wildkats (14-3 overall, 7-0 in conference) have already secured the Northwestern A regular-season title and play tonight against Polson (6-10, 3-3). The divisional tournament is next week in Ronan.

Haley Belgarde is leading Columbia Falls with roughly 15 points per game. Both Hope Burlage and Winter Kemppainen are averaging roughly nine per game.

Frenchtown (13-4, 5-2) is second in the conference standings, followed by Polson, Libby (3-14, 1-6) and Whitefish (1-16, 1-6).

The Columbia Falls boys moved back into the rankings and are fifth in Class A. The Wildcats (12-5, 6-1) are atop the Northwestern A standings. Whitefish (10-7, 5-2) is second, followed by Frenchtown (8-9, 4-3), Polson (6-10, 1-5) and Libby (7-10, 1-6).

In Class B, Bigfork recently suffered its first loss against a Class B this season and fell to third place in the rankings. The Vikings (14-4, 7-1) host a District 7-B playoff game on Thursday.

In Class AA, the Glacier girls team moved up to fourth place after beating Missoula Big Sky 66-53 last week. The Wolfpack (13-3, 6-2) are in third place in the Western AA standings. Top-ranked Sentinel (16-1, 7-1) is in first and No. 2 Helena Capital (14-1,7-1) is second. Flathead (8-7, 3-5) is in fourth place. Glacier and Flathead host Helena’s two teams this weekend.

Glacier’s boys team dropped to fifth in the rankings. The Wolfpack (13-3, 6-2) are in third place in Western AA. Second-ranked Missoula Hellgate (14-2, 7-1) is atop the standings while fourth-ranked Helena Capital (11-4, 7-1) is second. Flathead (10-6, 4-4) is in fourth. Flathead and Glacier travel to Helena this weekend for a pair of conference matchups.
