There’s a new way to ride a bike in town. But you’ll pedal like crazy and never get anywhere.
Craig Prather fondly calls his new bike a Fender Blender. Crank up your heart rate on the red beast and ride for wattage to power a blender mixing up a mango smoothie or an iced coffee. Because you generate your own power, you’ll get 50 cents off your drink. (And you’ll be breathing hard when you’re done.)
Last Friday, the Jackson Hole transplant opened his dual-purpose shop Great Northern Cyclery and Daily Habit. “It allows me to combine two of my favorite pastimes—drinking great coffee and cycling great places,” says Prather.
Open seven days a week, the Daily Habit has indoor seating surrounded by signed posters of the world’s great cyclists and bicycle racing on satellite TV. Smoothies, espressos, and pastries also go well imbibed in the garden growing with bike forks and recycled bicycle parts art.
The bike shop—open every day except Sunday–specializes in high end road and mountain bikes such as Felt, Scott, Serotta, Ibis, Titus, and Rocky Mountain. With bike clothing and helmets, Prather says, “New stock shows up every day. We’re filling up the shop fast.” He also offers full-service repairs and product demos for saddles and wheels.
Located on the corner of O’Brien and First Street, Great Northern Cyclery and Daily Habit gears up for not only its grand opening in July, but the annual event that rivets bikers to the tube—the Tour de France. Even when the race airs at 5:00 a.m., Prather will open the shop for those who want to watch it live while riding the Fender Blender.
