$4,000 Reward Offered Following Killing of Grizzly Bear

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA — A $4,000 reward is being offered for information on who shot and killed a grizzly bear with three cubs northeast of Ovando in western Montana.

KECI-TV reports that $2,500 of the reward money is from private citizens and another $1,500 is from an animal rights group called In Defense of Animals.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks game wardens responded to a report of a dead female grizzly on Nov. 3.

The bear had three cubs about 9 months old. Two of the cubs were trapped, and officials decided to send them to the Bronx Zoo in New York.

Officials couldn’t catch the third cub. FWP spokeswoman Vivaca Crowser says there’s a chance the lone cub could survive the winter on its own.
