Tester Meets with Israeli Prime Minister

HELENA — U.S. Sen. Jon Tester says he was in Israel meeting with the prime minister as a nuclear deal with Iran was announced.

Tester says that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not happy about details of the plan revealed by the Obama administration on Sunday.

Tester told Lee Newspapers of Montana that Netanyahu suspects that under the deal Iran could continue to enrich uranium.

Tester had scheduled his weeklong visit to Israel some time ago. It was arranged and sponsored by the American Israel Education Foundation, a pro-Israel group.

Tester said it was a coincidence that he was meeting with the country’s leaders during the big development on Middle East policy.

The six-month interim agreement with Iran calls for it to limit activity that could create a nuclear weapon in exchange for easing of economic sanctions.
