Schools in Bigfork, St. Regis Closed Because of Icy Conditions

School canceled in Bigfork; schools buses aren't running in Thompson Falls, but school is open

The latest on icy conditions in western Montana (all times local):

10:35 a.m.

State officials have reopened a stretch of Interstate 90 in western Montana that had been closed due to icy conditions.

Classes at Bigfork schools were canceled Friday due to icy roads.

The roadway between Haugen and Superior had been closed Friday morning due to the treacherous conditions.

Montana Department of Transportation officials later reopened the highway but warned drivers of freezing rain and black ice.

Freezing rain in western Montana has created treacherous conditions that have closed schools and a major roadway.

Montana Department of Transportation officials said Friday Interstate 90 has been closed from Haugen to Superior because of ice.

KECI-TV reports schools in Superior, St. Regis, Bigfork and Trout Creek have been closed because of the driving conditions.

Schools buses aren’t running in Thompson Falls, but school is open. Schools in other areas are being delayed.

The National Weather Service reports icy conditions from Libby to the Bitterroot Valley.

A wintry mix of ice and snow is expected to fall through Friday.
