MISSOULA — Democratic state Rep. Kimberly Dudik of Missoula has announced her candidacy for attorney general in 2020.

Dudik said Monday she’s running to help make communities safer, to protect children from abuse and to address the underlying causes of criminal behavior to help reduce recidivism.

Dudik has served as a Montana Supreme Court law clerk, a deputy Gallatin County attorney and an assistant attorney general.

She is a private practice attorney and is beginning her fourth term in the state House of Representatives, where she has backed legislation to improve the state’s public defender and criminal justice systems and reform human trafficking laws.

Attorney General Tim Fox is prevented from seeking re-election due to term limits.
