Communications System Starts in Flathead County

By Beacon Staff

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is converting to a new communications network intended to link law-enforcement with government agencies in northern Montana.

The new system involves a high-capacity microwave network being built by the Northern Tier Interoperability Consortium.

The consortium was founded in 2004 by 12 counties and four Indian reservations.

It is one of nine regional partnerships in the statewide Interoperability Consortium.

Officials say the new system will also improve homeland security by providing a way for military and civil authorities to communicate by radio.
