Local Kids Ski Well in Junior Olympics

By Beacon Staff

Three young skiers represented the Flathead well at the Junior Olympics in Mt. Bachelor, Ore., on March18-21.

Anna Jobe, Erin Tabish and Nevada Kramer made up the Whitefish Mountain Resort Ski Team and were part of the Montana lineup of just 10 boys and seven girls.

They pitted their skills against those of athletes from the Western Region, including Utah, California, Oregon and Alaska.

From a press release:

The 5-day race schedule included Super-G training, and races in Super-G, Giant Slalom and Slalom. Best results included Anna Jobe’s 8th place in Giant Slalom and 19th place in Slalom, and Erin Tabish’s 24th place in Slalom. Also Nevada Kramer was satisfied with his times in Super-G as he finished close to his toughest competitors in the division. Coach Dick Collins accompanied our juniors on the trip and was very pleased with the team’s performance.

There was also more fun happening on Big Mountain for other young skiers:

The Tommy Moe Dual Slalom took place on Sunday, and close to 50 children between ages 5 and 12 competed in this fun event. The stakes were high, and the prizes included T-shirts and medals signed by the winner of two Olympic medals, Tommy Moe who now lives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and recently became a father. Congratulations! This year’s Dual Slalom winner was Brittain Walton, Oliver Van Everen finished 2nd and Katherine Millette in 3rd place.

Way to go, Anna, Erin and Nevada! It’s nice to know our valley was represented so well – congrats!
