Transient Found Dead in Missoula Alley

MISSOULA – Missoula police are investigating the death of a 46-year-old transient man as a homicide.

The victim’s body was found in a downtown alley Monday night. At the time, police said the death did not appear to have been the result of foul play, but Sgt. Bob Bouchee said an autopsy Tuesday showed the man died of injuries from an apparent assault.

Missoula County Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Ruguleiski, who served as coroner in the case, said he could not release the man’s name or the cause or manner of the death.

“For sure it’s a homicide, I can tell you that much,” he said.

Investigators say they have identified several possible suspects and are following up on information from Missoula’s homeless population. No arrests have been made.
