More than 5,000 competitors and 2,000 spectators converged on Bigfork for the second annual Montana Spartan Sprint. Racers were pushed to the limit along the 4.6-mile course, which was littered with 18 obstacles and featured 4,000 feet of elevation gain. Joel Ahles, a 25-year-old from Kalispell, was the top local competitor, placing second in the men’s Open division with a time of 49 minutes, 40 seconds. Kristin Thompson, 33, of Kalispell, won the women’s Open division with a time of 59:10.
