GOP Complains About Montana Governor’s Travel

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – The Montana Republican Party says it wants to know how much it cost for Gov. Brian Schweitzer to fly to local communities and discuss stimulus spending.

Schweitzer, a Democrat, recently traveled to several counties and cities around the state that were the subject of stimulus grants frozen by the administration.

The disputes got testy when Schweitzer asked for letters of support for coal money and stimulus spending before releasing money.

The governor then decided to just release the funds, more than $3 million, citing a better budget picture.

The governor’s spokeswoman says the governor considers the whole state his office, and he plans to travel to all 56 counties again.
