Hunters: Dispose Of Carcass Waste Properly

By Beacon Staff

It is the time of the year when carcasses and hunting scraps start showing up in odd places: trailheads, access points, under bridges, behind Kelly humps, in front of gates and on roadsides. Animals that are harvested need to be properly disposed of after the hunter has taken all the meat off the carcass (see current big game regulations booklet for guidelines).

The Flathead County Landfill will take the bones and scraps. It is not a good idea (and illegal) to throw the bones and scraps on public land or within a road right of way. By doing this your waste can:
• Attract scavengers
• Promote the transmission of diseases
• Attract domestic dogs
• Put hunters in a bad light

This year, please help keep our lands clean by taking your waste to the landfill or other approved site.
