The state of Idaho will remember Makena Morley.

The Bigfork senior wrote her name in the record books at one of the state’s premier high school cross country races, the Bob Firman Invitational in Boise. Morley won the 5K race in 17 minutes, 24.6 seconds, breaking the previous meet record set in 2012 by five seconds.

Morley’s sister, Bryn, placed fourth in 17:51. The top four finishers earned times that rank among the top 10 fastest all-time at the elite meet, which annually features 3,600 runners from middle school through high school from eight states in the Pacific Northwest.

Logan Morley placed 69th in the boys race, running 16:52.
