GREAT FALLS — Officials in Meagher County have identified the Canadian pilot who was killed in an airplane crash just northeast of Helena.

Sheriff Jon Lopp says 56-year-old David Charron died in the crash accident Thursday afternoon while his 54-year-old wife Valerie was injured.

Lopp tells KFBB-TV in Great Falls that Valerie Charron was transferred from the hospital in Helena to Great Falls, where she was listed in good condition.

Lopp told CBC Radio in Canada that the plane clipped some trees as it was going down and the wings were broken off, but the fuselage stayed mainly intact.

CBC reports the Charrons are from Chestermere, Alberta, a city just east of Calgary.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
