Track Season Hits Full Stride

A breakdown of local athletes ranking in the top three in the state so far

The high school track season is in full stride and already down to the final weeks before the divisional meets.

Local athletes have already competed in several high-profile meets but a few more chances remain before the final events.

The annual Archie Roe Invitational Track Meet is at Legends Stadium on May 2.

The District 7B meet is May 9 in Eureka. The Western AA divisional is in Missoula, May 15-16. The Northwestern A divisional is May 15-16 in Libby. The Western B divisional is in Missoula, May 15-16.

Here is a breakdown of local athletes ranking in the top three in the state so far:

Flathead’s Jake Perrin has the fastest 1,600-meter time for all classes in the state, 4:25.79. Bigfork’s Logan Morley, the reigning champ, has the second fastest time overall and top time in Class B, 4:28.16. Sylas Schutt, of Flathead, has the fifth fastest time overall and third fastest in AA, 4:31.06.

Schutt also has the third fastest 3,200-meter time overall and second best in AA, 9:37.37. Perrin ranks fourth overall and third best in AA, 9:46.02.

On Monday, Schutt officially signed a letter of intent to compete at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., next year.

Whitefish’s Jed Nagler has the best high jump in the state, 6-6.

Nagler has has the third fastest 100-meter time in Class A, 11.27. Christian Langston of Eureka has the third fastest 100 time in Class B, 11.36.

Bigfork’s Josh Sandry, the Class B reigning champ in the high jump, has the second best mark in his division so far, 6-3.

The Glacier 1,600 relay team ranks third in the state, 3:30.30.

Flathead’s Jess Beaman has the top long jump in the state, 22-0, and the best triple jump, 44-9.

Glacier’s Harrison Kauffman has the third best shot put in Class AA, 51-6.5. Eureka’s Nolan Hofstee has the third best mark in Class B, 48-2.25.

Whitefish’s Luke May, the defending Class A champ in the javelin, ranks third overall and second in his division with 190-7.

On the girls side, Glacier’s Annie Hill has the fastest 3,200-meter time in the state, 10:36.34.

Hill also has the second fastest 800-meter time in both the state and Class AA, 2:13.01. Bigfork’s Bryn Morley ranks third overall and first in Class B, 2:15.04.

In the 1,600-meter race, Hill ranks second, 5:05.36. Christina Aragon of Billings Senior is first in both the 800 (2:11.48) and 1,600 (5:00.48).

Flathead’s Gillian Maness ranks third overall in the 1,600, 5:09.97, and third in the 3,200, 11:21.61.

Columbia Falls’ Samantha Mundel, the reigning 1,600 state champ in Class A, ranks first in her division, 5:19.0.

Glacier’s Anna Kreitinger ranks third in Class AA in the 300-meter hurdles, 47.21.

Bigfork has the third best long relay team and top Class B squad, 4:07.92. Glacier has the third best AA relay team, 4:09.02.

Columbia Falls’ Carla Nicosia ranks second in Class A in the triple jump, 36-2.

Glacier’s Melanie Gessaway has the second best mark in Class AA in the shot put, 39-8.

Glacier’s Keyawna Larson, the two-time state champion in Class AA, ranks No. 1 in her division in the javelin and second overall, 136-7.
