A fire destroyed a home on Rockefeller Drive on the north end of Kalispell on Thursday afternoon.

The fire was first reported shortly after 4:30 p.m. and by the time firefighters arrived heavy smoke and flames were shooting out of the building. No one was home at the time of the fire, but one neighbor was treated for smoke inhalation and heat related injuries.

The fire got so hot that it damaged the siding on a nearby house and firefighters worked to keep homes on either side wet to limit damage.

Kalispell Fire Chief Dave Dedman said the home is a total loss and that the fire caused at least $250,000 worth of damage.

The cause of the fire is unclear at this time but early indications suggest it started in the kitchen.

Firefighters from Kalispell, Evergreen, West Valley and Whitefish all responded to the blaze.

Fire danger is high in the Flathead Valley due to hot temperatures. June is on pace to be the driest on record in Kalispell, according to the National Weather Service.
