CULBERTSON – Crews have reopened a rail line in northeast Montana where four tank cars derailed and leaked an estimated 35,000 gallons of oil.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway spokesman Matt Jones says the track was reopened about 9 p.m. Friday.
Twenty-two cars of a BNSF train hauling fuel from North Dakota derailed Thursday night about 5 miles east of the small town of Culbertson. Nearby residents were temporarily evacuated, but no one was hurt and no fire or explosion occurred.
Jones says crews are still working to clean up the spilled oil and remove the toppled tank cars.
He says the cause of the derailment as well as how fast the train was traveling remains under investigation.
