The Kalispell Police Department is investigating several complaints of criminal mischief and vandalism in the neighborhood near Flathead High School.

Multiple buildings, including residential garages and Elrod Elementary School, and at least 21 vehicles were spray painted in the early morning hours of May 31. A church on Fourth Avenue West sustained a broken window and was spray painted along with a vehicle in the parking lot.

Legends Stadium suffered significant “tagging,” including targeted language toward Flathead High School Resource Officer Cory Clarke and one of the school’s administrators. There was also explicit language targeting the Kalispell Police Department and Flathead and Glacier high schools.

Authorities are estimating the damage exceeds $3,000.

The paint color — primer gray — was consistent throughout the neighborhood.

“It’s just disheartening,” Flathead Activities Director Bryce Wilson said at Legends Stadium on Tuesday morning.

Wilson said this was the second time this school year that Legends Stadium, which remains open to the public 24 hours a day, has been the target of graffiti.

Clarke said he is reviewing surveillance footage at Legends Stadium in hopes of identifying a suspect or multiple suspects.

The police department is continuing to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact KPD Captain Doug Overman at 758-7793.

The incident comes less than a month after 21 students broke into Flathead High School and caused significant damage throughout the facility.
