Kalispell Reaches Record Rainfall for October

All-time record for the month fell Wednesday morning

By Molly Priddy

Kalispell has reached record-level status with the amount of rain that has fallen so far in October, according to the National Weather Service in Missoula.

As of 6 a.m. on Oct. 26, Kalispell had broken the all-time rainfall record for October, with 3.41 inches so far this month.

The previous record, set in 1914, was for 3.4 inches. The average for October is 0.7 inches.

Precipitation looks to be a major part of the upcoming winter season, with forecasters predicting average snow levels in the Flathead Valley, with plenty of snow in the mountains. A low-level La Niña season will likely push more storms through the valley, forecasters said, with average temperatures for that time of year.

Kalispell’s average snowfall is 55.8 inches. Last year, Kalispell received 41.4 inches of snow. Forecasts for Whitefish Mountain Resort predict snow levels at 120 percent of average, when average sits at about 300 inches per winter.
