The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has recovered the body of a 41-year-old Idaho man who slipped into the Kootenai River in December.

Trevor Applegate fell while hiking on the ice-slicked rocks just below the Kootenai Falls around 5 p.m. on Dec. 6, Sheriff Roby Bowe said. A search was quickly organized but crews were unable to find the man; the search included boats, ground searchers and even camera-equipped drones. High-river flows, cold temperatures and icy conditions hampered search efforts, according to authorities.

Bowe said state Fish, Wildlife and Parks employees working in the area near Troy found the body in the water and called 911. Applegate’s body was recovered around noon on March 22.
