Gryphon Group, a North Carolina-based military training company, is moving forward with plans for a new combat training facility in the Flathead Valley.

The company announced recently that it was developing the new center near Marion and opening a commercial site in Kalispell.

Gryphon Group offers specialized training to the Army, Navy, Air Force and other federal agencies, as well as local search and rescue crews and first responders.

The group first introduced itself to the valley last October at a public event, where Michael Vaden, the founder of Gryphon Group, explained his interest in opening a new facility locally. The company was originally affiliated with Advanced Airborne & Counter Operations Group (AACOG), a Montana corporation established in 2016, but Vladen said the two businesses are no longer associated.

The company plans to begin setting up shop by July, according to Vladen.
