BUTTE — A Montana man accused of sexually assaulting a Butte woman while she slept after a night of drinking has received a 20-year suspended sentence.

The Montana Standard reports 25-year-old Aaron James Navarro pleaded guilty in April to sexual intercourse without consent, a felony that carries a possible penalty of life in prison and $50,000 fine.

District Judge Kurt Krueger said Thursday that Navarro will have to complete sex-offender treatment, register as a sex offender, take annual polygraph tests and follow several restrictions.

If he fails to complete the treatment or violates any probation terms, Krueger says he will be sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Ann Shea, the chief prosecutor in the case, says the victim was OK with the suspended sentence.
