HELENA (AP) – More than half of those eligible for the $400 Montana property tax rebate have received it.
The director of the Montana Department of Revenue says that 133,000 households have received the rebate. A total of $100 million has been earmarked to pay for the rebate checks.
Dan Bucks says 75 percent of those eligible have applied for the rebate. His agency currently has a two-week backlog in processing applications.
The rebate was advanced by Governor Brian Schweitzer and authorized by the Montana Legislature earlier this year.
The one-time property-tax refund goes to people who owned and lived in their home as a primary residence for at least seven months in 2006.
