State Speech and Debate Meet in Columbia Falls Fri/Sat

By Beacon Staff

On Fri Jan 25 and Sat Jan 26, the Columbia Falls High School Speech and Debate team hosts the State Class A Speech and Debate Meet. Competition will be held at the high school and junior high.

Columbia Falls’ rich tradition in this competition is visible in the photo above. Nine state championship banners hang on the wall. 30 years ago, a state championship banner was earned by the Columbia Falls High School Speech team. Dated 1978, it was followed by state championships in 1988, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007.

Despite losing a strong senior contingent with numerous state champions last year, Columbia Falls is back in the hunt in what was supposed to have been a rebuilding year. All season long, C-Falls and Whitefish took turns placing 1st and 2nd, often depending on how many members of each team were able to compete.

This weekend, all the chips are on the table for yet another Cat/Dog faceoff as CFHS’ quest for a tenth state championship banner begins.
