Places: Woodland Park

By Beacon Staff

With summer winding down and fall approaching, city parks are a magnificent places for a quick getaway.

Take a leisurely stroll around the pond or a vigorous jog along the well-maintained paved pathways in Woodland Park. Small bridges over the water are reminiscent of European-style parks. Stop and smell the flowers in the large circular garden and test your knowledge on the blooming fauna and trees.

Stand amidst the nearly 2,000 brightly decorated tiles adorning the Community Spirit Monument. With four pillars, each standing nine feet and weighing 350 pounds, the colorful monument is a grand addition to the park.

The east side of the park features a large playground area with swings, slides and a variety of equipment. Many patrons of the park bring bread to feed the numerous ducks, geese, swans and other birds that are always willing to snack.

The picnic area is a great place for a late summer family gathering with a pavilion covering picnic tables. A grill and fire ring, for wood and charcoal, are provided as well as amenities such as restrooms.

How to get there: From downtown Kalispell, go east on Second Street East. Continue on Second Street East through the intersection with Woodland Avenue. Turn north on Woodland Park Drive and the entrance to the park is on he left.
