Officials ID Victim in Missoula Police Shooting

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – A 46-year-old homeless man who was shot to death by Missoula police has been identified as Gregory R. Ramsey.

Police say Ramsey died early Sunday in a shootout with officers who were trying to arrest him on an outstanding warrant.

Police Chief Mark Muir says the department wouldn’t comment on the shooting because it is still being investigated by the Missoula County sheriff’s department.

But Muir says based on what he knows, the officers were acting within the law and department policy. The officers, whose names haven’t been released, were placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
