Young Filmmakers Can Apply for Wildlife Camp, Workshop

By Beacon Staff

Six young filmmakers can earn the chance to make a special project for the soon-to-be-launched international Montana Matters Campaign, a new collaborative initiative of the International Wildlife Film Festival and the Montana Wildlife Federation.

The students chosen for the two-week wildlife filmmaking workshop and camp will make one major film and a series of short public service announcements that focus on why Montana’s wildlife and wild places are among our greatest natural resources and of importance not only to Montanans but to people all over the world. The camp will include filming over land, river, stream, woods and wilderness.

Professional film instructors and film producers will work with the students, who will take multiple field trips to wildlife areas throughout the region as well as conduct on-camera interviews. Cameras and all production equipment is provided by the Montana Film Academy, but students must have some prior experience with filmmaking.

The film academy workshop is made possible by a scholarship grant from a private donor. Interested teens or their families can either download an application from the Media Center Web site or contact IWFF (728-9380 or [email protected]) to request an application. Once received, IWFF staff will review the applications and those students selected for an interview will have an opportunity to explain why attending a wildlife film camp is important to them. Media Center staff will begin selecting the six students to participate over the next month.
