Yes We Cannabis

While Lido and I had an excellent Helena adventure last week, we realized to our dismay that, by leaving on Thursday, we missed a demonstration by medical marijuana advocates under the Capitol dome on Friday – complete with real, live marijuana plants and free brownies (which I can only assume did not contain the reefer). While this is terribly nerdy, anyone who has spent any amount of time at the Legislature knows that anything even remotely titillating going on becomes exponentially more exciting when you’ve spent the previous week scrutinizing the latest zoning or corrections funding bill. So the prospect of pot plants being brought into the statehouse does become kind of exciting, along with the (wholly fictional, of course) idea of a House floor debate when several members have consumed THC-enhanced brownies, but I digress…

Great Falls Tribune Capitol Bureau Chief John S. Adams was good enough to shoot video of some of the proceedings from Cannabis at the Capitol day and post some of the speeches and interviews on his blog, The Lowdown. And just yesterday, a bill to increase the amount of medicinal marijuana patients and caregivers can hold passed the Republican-controlled Senate, so maybe the rally worked after all! Or maybe it was the brownies…
