‘When Did Your County’s Jobs Disappear?’

By Beacon Staff

Just a short post to direct you to this interesting piece by Slate. Using the Labor Department’s local area unemployment statistics, Slate presents the recession as told by unemployment numbers for each county in America.

The interactive graphic is easy to use. Dots are proportional to the number of jobs gained (blue) or lost (red) since the same month in the previous year. The larger the dot, the greater the number of jobs gained or lost. The result is a dramatic illustration of how jobs across the country, including our own Flathead County, have disappeared since 2007.
