The first seminar will begin at 9 a.m. and wrap up at 11 a.m. The second seminar will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will end at approximately 8:30 p.m. Residents can choose to attend one or both seminars. Early registration is required. To register, please call either Carla at 752-2265 or Sherry at 863-5565.

Here’s information from the county on each seminar topic:

Seminar #1, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

If you think you know who gets your property when you die, think again!

When does a will “really” control the distribution of your assets? What is the impact of how your property is titled on who gets it? Did you know that you can avoid probate on your real property in Montana with a beneficiary deed? Are you making use of PODs and TODs on your financial accounts to avoid probate of these assets? Are you aware of the dying without a will CD that is available from MSU without charge?

Seminar #2, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Probate and Federal Estate Taxes

Wondering if a revocable trust is for you? What are some of the advantages and disadvantages? Do I need a Power of Attorney? How can I avoid probate? Am I going to have to pay federal estate taxes? Marsha A. Goetting, MSU Extension Family Economics Specialist will update Flathead area residents on state and federal estate planning topics as well as the Montana Homestead Declaration.
