Places: Somers Swimming and Fishing Access

By Beacon Staff

Boating season is upon us and there is no easier access to the grandeur of Flathead Lake than the Somers Swimming and Fishing Access.

For boaters, a large concrete boat ramp provides a comfortable gradient plunge into the water. The recommended combined vehicle length should not exceed 35 feet. The site is one of 12 Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks-managed sites on the lake.

Arching around the west portion of the access is a wide concrete walkway, separated from the parking lot by grass. The space is perfect for sunbathing, picnicking and a quick icy plunge into the waters.

Follow the concrete trail to the east and find a little more seclusion at the Somers Swimming Access. The inviting gravel beach eases into the water and is ideal for lounging lakeside. From the access, look south across the lake for fantastic views of the surrounding vistas.

Restrooms are located near the boat ramp and the entire fishing access is wheelchair accessible.

With more than 200 square miles of water and 185 miles of shoreline, Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi in the lower 48 states.
