Montana ProLife Coalition Proposes Initiatives

By Beacon Staff

HELENA –The Montana ProLife Coalition is proposing three ballot measures that would effectively ban abortion in the state.

Each proposed constitutional initiative would define a person as a human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human.

The proposals were submitted for review Wednesday — the first step toward qualifying any of them for the 2010 ballot. The coalition also must gather more than 48,000 signatures of registered voters.

Backers say similar efforts are underway in Colorado, Oregon and Mississippi.
